Me, typing away at the story in question

When nineteen-year-old Cannan took a job as a private piano tutor, he wasn’t quite expecting to get entangled in a treasure hunt. But mounting medical bills from his sister’s recent accident are eating into his meager savings and gnawing at his anxious mind, and unless the money falls from the sky the crushing costs will swallow him whole.
The pressing conditions force Cannan to scour his new student’s house—a dusty old mansion with bafflingly odd architecture—for a prize beyond imagination that’s rumored to be hidden inside. How can he do it without alerting the miser who owns the mansion and his army of always-watching servants? And what other secrets might lurk within the cryptic walls and twisting halls of this house?

You just read the blurb for my latest story. “Latest story?” you might ask. “Why should I care about what you’re writing? Just give me another book review.” Well, skeptical and slightly rude fictitious reader, allow me to explain.

Out of the past 112 posts, some of the ones that have garnered the most attention are my own creative works. And like the savvy blogger I am (that’s sarcasm) I concluded, “If those are getting more views, that must be what the people want.”

So at the end of January, I made a commitment to my email list subscribers. For the remaining three quarters of 2022, I will post a story that unfolds week by week in an attempt to put my writing where my words are. Or…something like that.

These three stories will all strive to be both entertaining and thought-provoking, containing strong Biblical messages. While I work on honing my novel-crafting skills in private, perhaps you can be blessed by these shorter works.

The very first quarterly tale, a contemporary mystery/treasure hunt following Cannan Gable and his sister Evangeline, begins next week on Tuesday and will continue every week on Tuesday until July when the next one begins to be posted on Tuesday. This will not interrupt the regular Friday posts.

Depending on how things pan out behind the scenes, they may or may not be featured on the main blog page, but either way, a convenient dropdown under the “Stories” menu tab will show a page with all posted chapters linked.

This is an experiment both in what you want to read and how well I can actually write, so any feedback about any part of the process will be very appreciated. And if you want to get notified as new chapters come out, enter your email below to join the Benefield Bookmark email list.

That should cover everything. Thanks for reading, and I’ll write you in the next one!

Timothy Benefield

Timothy Benefield is a writer by day—and a writer by night. Were he to describe himself, the first thing he would want you to know is that he is a Christian saved by the grace of God. This means he strives to glorify his Creator in all his stories, weaving tales that convict, challenge, and inspire, as well as entertain. If he has anything to say about it, he’ll become an indie published author who touches lives all over the world. On the occasion you don’t find him writing, he’ll be drawing maps to accompany his worlds, consuming a good book, or spelunking in the infinite cave of knowledge.

Ayy that blurb is definitely captivating! 😀 Can’t wait for the story. 😎

Also… nice typewriter!! 0-o I think I’ve only seen about one or two in real life.

Thanks for reading, I’m glad it’s interesting! It’s not my typewriter, unfortunately. I was only allowed to use it for a photo shoot. But one day I will have one.
