Doubtless, you’ve seen the craze of AI-generated content sweeping the internet. From stories to art to music, these synthetic humans seem to do it all.

After I recently got my hands on a text generation program, I asked it to write a story of a war between octopuses and sharks (because why not?). Keep in mind that AI entirely made the following story and art—I only provided guidance, giving it the initial prompts and instructions (such as “give the story a title” or “write an ad”).

So sit back and enjoy the epic tale of Octopuses and Sharks: A Tale of War and Peace, written by ChatGPT and illustrated by Dall-E.

Once upon a time, in the deep blue sea, a group of octopuses and sharks were at war. The octopuses were intelligent and cunning, while the sharks were fierce and powerful. The octopuses lived in a city they had built among the coral reefs, while the sharks patrolled the open waters.

The war had been raging for many months, and both sides had suffered heavy losses. The octopuses had developed weapons that could fire ink and darts, but the sharks were nearly impervious to their attacks. The sharks, on the other hand, could tear through the octopuses’ defenses with their razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws.

One day, a group of octopuses came up with a plan to end the war once and for all. They gathered their best warriors and set out to attack the sharks’ stronghold, a massive underwater cave. The octopuses used their intelligence and stealth to infiltrate the cave, and once inside, they launched a surprise attack on the sharks.

The octopuses fought bravely, using their weapons and their quick reflexes to fend off the sharks. The sharks were caught off guard and were unable to organize a proper defense. After a long and grueling battle, the octopuses emerged victorious.

The war between the octopuses and the sharks was over, and the octopuses had triumphed. They returned to their city to celebrate their victory, knowing that they had proved their superiority over their shark foes. From that day on, the octopuses and the sharks lived in peace, and the deep blue sea was once again a safe and tranquil place.

In the aftermath of the war between the octopuses and the sharks, the octopuses began to rebuild their city among the coral reefs. They worked hard to repair the damage that had been done during the conflict, and soon their city was thriving once again.

But the octopuses knew that they could not let their guard down. Even though the sharks had been defeated, they were still a formidable foe, and the octopuses knew that they would need to be prepared in case the sharks decided to attack again.

To this end, the octopuses began to develop new weapons and defenses. They also started to explore the sea, looking for new allies and resources that could help them in the event of another war.

One day, a group of octopuses discovered a sunken ship at the bottom of the sea. The ship was filled with all sorts of interesting artifacts, including old maps and charts. The octopuses were excited by their find, and they began to study the maps and charts, looking for clues about the sea and the world beyond.

Through their studies, the octopuses discovered that there were other cities and civilizations beneath the waves, and they began to make contact with these other groups. They traded knowledge and resources, and they formed alliances with the other sea-dwelling creatures.

The octopuses were determined to be prepared for any future threats, and they continued to grow and prosper. They knew that the sharks were still out there, but they were ready for whatever challenges came their way.

The octopuses continued to thrive in their city beneath the waves. They maintained their alliances with the other sea-dwelling creatures, and they continued to develop new weapons and defenses to protect themselves from any future threats.

Despite their best efforts, however, the octopuses could not completely eliminate the threat of the sharks. The sharks still prowled the open waters, looking for prey and opportunities to attack. But the octopuses were ready for them, and they were able to repel any shark attacks that came their way.

Over time, the octopuses and the sharks reached an uneasy peace. They avoided each other as much as possible, and they both went about their business in the sea. The octopuses continued to grow and prosper, and they remained a force to be reckoned with in the deep blue sea.

To be honest, the story isn’t half bad. Or even a quarter bad. It’s truly amazing what these machines are capable of. You can try out ChatGPT and Dall-E for yourself here and here. Try generating your own stories and let me know what you come up with! I’d love to read your results.

Thanks for reading!

Hmm, it’s not as bad as I thought. It was a pretty good plotline, and that artwork! Personally, though, I felt it was a tad…flat? Is that the word I’m looking for? I feel as if people are better at infusing a story with emotion and relatability between reader and character. But, I could be wrong 🙂 I’m very much a character-driven reader, so that might be it lol. How about you?

I definitely agree, the story reads more like a history textbook than a story. It’s missing the heart that a human can include. I’m the same with character-driven stories, but I think most readers are character-driven. That’s what gives a story its power. But I could be wrong. *shrug*

      Very true about character-driven stories.

On second thought, this AI generated story could serve well as a prompt. I think my nephew would read a story like that (just sprinkle in some more plot twists and relatable characters lol.)

Thanks again for sharing this story. I haven’t read an AI story before, so I’m glad I could experience one.

Definitely. The robots could be useful for creating story seeds. But that’s about it.

You’re most welcome! Thanks for reading!
