By now I’m sure you’re tired of hearing and reading how 2020 was such an awful year. So, that’s not what this post is about. Today I’ll be looking at how the Bookmark—and its author—have grown over the year.

The Bookmark

Two hundred fifty-nine days ago, on April 16st, I posted my first post on The Benefield Bookmark. Since then, I’ve posted every Friday (except when it was late a few times…oops) and improved my reviews.

This blog began on Google’s Blogger. After three months of tweaking that design, the bugs of the platform became too much, and I migrated to WordPress. WordPress has turned out to be much easier to work with, becoming my home of six months so far.

I passed my six month mark recently, which is crazy. Unfortunately, I only realized after the date passed, so I wasn’t able to make a post about it. I’m currently in the middle of my eighth month of blogging. For those who have been here since the beginning, thank you for sticking around as I try to improve my posts and site.

At the same time I started this blog, I took up graphic design. This had come in handy continually, including making the logo and graphics for my blog. I’ll talk about this a little more in tomorrow’s post.

The Writer

During this time, I’ve developed my skills as a writer (I hope) by working on my first novel, finishing a novelette, starting another novelette, and posting weekly on this site. Many more books and posts are in the pipeline, so make sure to follow the blog.

In May, I joined a writing academy and community called the Young Writer’s Workshop. From this I’ve learned a lot about the writing craft and also made some writer and blogger contacts. If you’re a young writer looking to improve your skills, I definitely recommend it.

This year has been a big one for me, from starting this blog to learning much about writing. God has directed me in to some great resources for becoming a better storyteller. How about you? How has your year gone? Let me know in the comments!
