Theo almost asked: Why would the real killer be a security risk if he showed up to watch the trial? What’s he gonna do? Kill somebody else? In open court? In front of dozens of witnesses?
“I see,” Theo said. “You guys better be careful.”

Kid Lawyer

My dad gave me this series a couple years back, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More recently, however, I reread it and was able to appreciate it even more, now that I’m a writer. I’ll talk about this more in the review, but the plot and characters are so realistic and fun.

Plot

Thirteen-year-old Theodore Boone isn’t a lawyer—yet. He knows every clerk, judge, police officer, and attorney in town, and knows more about the law than some lawyers.
When a murder trial begins in the town of Strattenburg, Theo is ecstatic. It’s the first big trial in the city since, well, ever. The accused, a Mr. Peter Duffy, supposedly killed his wife in cold blood. As the trial begins, the prosecution seems to be failing, and a guilty man will soon walk away.
In a strange turn of events, Theo becomes wrapped up in the trial. The truth has been revealed, and only he knows it. How will he handle this? What will become of the trial?

Characters

Theo is just a fun character to read, especially for a young teen. He’s very relatable and funny, especially in his thoughts. For the third time, I love his character.

Character and Spiritual Application

There is none of this whatsoever. There are a couple mentions of Theo going to church, but it’s not very prominent. Theo also has some moments of dishonesty, though it isn’t encouraged, just shown.

Overall Thoughts

I’m marking down the overall because, while I enjoyed this, it isn’t my typical genre. Someone else that enjoys contemporary fiction might like this more.
